In Queensland, community legal centres, together with the Department of Communities, have been at the forefront of identifying and breaking down barriers to justice for older people. In this session we explore the critical features of Caxton Legal Centre’s model and compare other models within Australia and internationally.

Mark Thomas is the President of Caxton Legal Centre and Secretary of Prisoners’ Legal Service, and was a founding member of the LGBTIQ Legal Service. He is a Senior Lecturer at the QUT Faculty of Law, teaching administrative law and legal ethics. He also coordinates QUT’s mooting programme, and coaches the International Criminal Court competition team. His research areas include legal ethics, socio-legal jurisprudence. He has co-authored books on legal theory and professional responsibility. Mark is a barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland and High Court of Australia.
